One of my friends in college played the Tuba. He did a lot of breathing exercises to train for it. He said he thought it gave him more energy in general because he expanded his lungs and he got more oxygen. Has anyone else heard of this? Do you know of any that are really supposed to help?

more energy from breathing??? i'm not so sure i quite believe it myself ... i play trumpet on a daily basis ... but i also play trombone and baritone quite often ... but i don't think being able to have a bigger lung capacity gives me energy ...

It wouldn't give you energy most likely, but would definately provide your body with more oxygen and let you do more activity for a longer period of time. I stayed away from wind instruments, I played drums and now I have been with my guitar and plan on sticking with it. Guitars are a lot of fun, even if you don't get a bigger breathing capacity with it :)

According to yoga breathing exercises are good for health. I actually like to play flute but as I was enquiring for a trainer, my brother told me that it makes my checks sag. Is that true?
