The papaya, if eaten regularly, corrects habitual constipation, bleeding piles and chronic diarhoea and the seeds are highly beneficial in the treatment of liver cirrhosis caused by alcoholism or malnutrition. A tablespoon of the ground seeds mixed with lemon juice should be taken twice a day to strengthen the liver.

The Papaya is best known for its ability to aid digestion. It contains the enzyme papain, which helps to digest proteins and is therefore useful for relief from dysepia and weak digestion.

It is also helpful in cases of incomplete digestion of protein fragments, the perfect antidote to a heavy meat diet. In fact, in tropical countries, papaya is used as a meat tenderizer and is known to expel worms, treat dysentery and peptic ulcers.
