Hi. I decided I want to be able to do overhand chins. At first I couldn't even do one, so just stuck to the lat pulldown. My back routine is - Deads, rows, pull downs.

I started just trying to do as many chins as I could each workout session, even on legs and chest day.

I can now do a grand total of THREE reps for one set.

What I've started doing to try and build the strenght up is doing two or three sets of three, then after that I can only do reps of two and then reps of one. So I just do a few sets of three, couple sets of two and then about eight single reps, witha 30 second or so rest inbetween.

I do this on monday and on friday.

Is this a good idea or is there a better way to go about it and build up the number of reps I can do in one set..?

Cheers

What you are doing is fine, but if you can only do 3 in one set I'd suggest doing lots of sets of 1 and 2, and only occasionally trying more. Get plenty of volume in - doing them twice a week, as you are, is good. Do some pulldowns now and again as well - they will build basic strength for pull-ups.
