At this early I want my child to develop good lifestyle. Aside from the nutritious foods I give her, I also want to teach her to exercise regularly. What kind of exercise can I teach her? Just simple exercise for toddlers. For parents out there, please help me. Thanks

around here, there's a lot of things like "sports camps" ... basically, where the kids go for a full day, like school, and they'll do things from hula hooping to basketball to football to soccer to lacrosse to jogging to roller blading to tag to dodgeball to kickball, etc. ... just so the kids can learn what's out there ... then, when your child acqures a certain like for certain activities, then you can enroll them in the specific classes or lessons, which i've found are a LOT more expensive than just the generalized camps ... not to say either is more worthwhile ...

growing up, my parents were in the backyard swinging on the swings with me, riding bikes with me, playing catch in the park, etc. ... because my parents were doing it, i thought i should too ...

i never really got into organized sports of any sort, but i had fun playing wallball with myself and swinging for hours on my swingset after school ... when it snowed, i'd make as many snowmen as the snow in my backyard would allow ... and i'd help shovel so i could get more snow ... it's the little daily kinds of things that are getting the kids away from computers and TVs and electronics and technology and out into the backyard or park to romp around for awhile ...

I wouldn't call it exercise - I would call it fun - you can have fun and exercise with your toddler - like as above playing with your child in the garden or in the park - kicking a football around and just chasing is good - let them have fun :)

Thanks for your reply. I have been inquiring for the organizers of sports camps here in our place. Right now, we are just playing ball with her in our yard. My husband is also thinking of buying or making our own swing. I am sure she will enjoy it. My child also enjoys playing hide and seek with us. I guess running around is also a good exercise for her.

encourage your children to get OUT and play ... play equates exercise ... if you start them at a young age by saying "you have to play ball for one hour because i said so", it starts to put a negative connotation with exercise ... be open and inviting "hey, wanna come toss the football with me? it's so pretty outside!!!" ... until you see noticable weight gains around the tummy, it's not a problem ... regular checkups with your pediatrician will help you know whether or not the child's weight vs. height is normal for their age ... my younger cousin's mother has always dieted her whole life ... she couldn't indulge with even one bite of low fat pumpkin pie at christmas or thanksgiving, etc., and the same eating mentality has settled upon her ... SHE'S FREAKING SEVEN YEARS OLD ... i can only imagine how she'll be as a teenager and later in life ... i took her to McDonalds for some chicken nuggets and french fries (i crave the french fries once in a blue moon) and even though she was hungry, she refused to eat the food i'd bought her because her mother had told her that anything that came from McDonalds, Burger King, etc. could kill you ... all she could talk about was how she wanted her ice water and granola ... MIND YOU, SHE'S SEVEN ...

Well, you wouldn't want to involve your young ones in anything to troublesome, as they most likely won't gain too much muscle until after puberty.

There was a show about a muscle show guru who was 7 years old, that they proved took steroids because he couldn't possibly get such muscles until after puberty. Interesting right?

no kidding ... in my own little capsule being hidden from reality, i didn't know dieting existed until i was about in the 7th or 8th grade ... my dad's always been overweight, and my mum's always been soft around the edges ... as were a lot of older people ... i thought it was normal ... i thought all kids swung on the swingset after school and played pitch with their sister until dusk ... i thought all kids begged to rake the leaves, jump in them, and rake them again ... i knew it as the norm ... i still do, to the same extent ...

Well in a way that is a way of excerising isn't it ?? - As soon as the boys are big enough they will be doing the lawn and raking leaves :)

The other things I do do is get the eldest to help me with the washing of the car :) its brilliant - great exercise for them :)

I only raked the lawn and washed the car if there was money involved - I only ever did it if I got cash up front ;) I lived with my mum and dad and 4 brothers so I learnt to look after my self and they got everything they wanted as they were mummys boys and I was a daddys girl but I made my my money where my brothers were too lazy to see there was money to be made :)

I don't worry about telling them to do more the kids are very active, the twins run around all day and only ever sit down for dinner and a story and their brother plays football and goes surfing with his mates so he is very active and is a beanpole :) unlike his mummy :)

we never got money for chores ... it was an understood thing that we all needed to help out ... if i wanted money, i needed to come up with a proposal to my parents for why i needed the money and what for ... they would decide if it was legitimate and if i'd been doing my share of work around the house, and they'd let me have the money ... until i was old enough to work on the ranch (which was 12) ... from then on, anything i wanted, i worked for, although i still had chores to do ...
