I broke a couple of ribs about a year ago and they seemed to heal up perfectly, however recently I have been getting a lot of pain in the same area. It lasts for about a few days, then goes away and reappears again a few weeks later.

Do you think this is something I should be worried about or is it normal after this sort of injury?

i've fractured ribs so many times, i have the same problems from time to time, but it's not persistent with every time i exercise ... one thing i could suggest is an athletic evaluation or just a plain evaluation, depending on what your local physical therapist offers, and they'd be able to tell you just how serious it is ... i suggest a physical therapist, because here it's $35 bucks for an assessment of injuries as well as treatment ... i know here i have 3 treatments they can do without a doctor's prescription ... it might be an option ...

You should visit your doctor. Broken ribs should be taken serious. If he's a good doctor he can surely recommend you a physical therapist ( like already mentioned in this thread ).

as you read, he said they ARE NOT broken anymore, they have healed, but he still has pain from them ... i've found that i've gotten better diagnoses from my physical therapist than i have my doctor ... plus, for lesser amounts of money they can give you suggestions for what to do on your own to help make things better ...
