I have a friend who drinks energy drinks everyday. Not many, one or two at most. Should that be a concern? I get the feeling that it is unhealthy but have no facts to back up my reason of concern. It just seems like the excess of vitamins in each can would only be beneficial if dranken sparingly.

What do you think?

most, if not all, of the energy drinks i've seen are the equivalent of guzzling a soda, diet or even regular ... it might have some minerals or vitamins, but they're really insignificant regarding what nutrients are vital for one's health ... the nutrients involved are ones often thought of to provide energy, not provide the body with nourishment ...

Hm. I don't really recall why, but soda leeches out calcium from your bones, correct? Then energy drinks do the same? Seems like they aren't any more harmful that soda, just a little more potent when it comes to energy.

true ... it's the caffeine that depletes calcium ... but if your friend drinks two energy drinks, does he know it's the equivalent of drinking two sodas per day??? most people don't think of it that way ...

Well, maybe more than 2 sodas per day. She actually gets the Rockstar doubleshot drinks, which are about a soda and a half. So she is doing the equivalent of about 3 sodas a day.

I have another friend who has a mom that drinks a few liters of mountain dew each day. Talk about unhealthy!

Energy drinks are nothing like soda so maybe one or two energy drinks a day is fine but anything else wouldn't be smart or safe.
There's actually a good amount of people that die due to the consumption of energy drinks.
Drink it in moderation. Over dosing on energy drinks is similar if not equivalent to over dosing on weight loss pills.

they contain equal, if not more amounts of caffeine than regular sodas ... they also contain equal, if not more amounts of sugars (whether artificial or not depends on the brand) ... yes they do contain other things like guarine and taurine and other minerals and such, but the fact that the caffeine is in such outrageous amounts, it has the same effect as drinking a soda, if not worse ...
