If you?re facing a problem you can?t get your head around, you might be told to sleep on it. Now scientists have shown that the advice is more than just an old wives tale.

Apparently sleep strengthens the memory and helps the brain extract themes and rules from the masses of information we soak up during the day. Lead researcher Bob stickgold, professor of psychiatry at the Harvard Medical School, said:?we?re not just stabilizing memories during sleep. We?re extracting the meaning. Sleep helps us extract rules from our experiences. It?s like knowing the difference between dogs and cats, even if its hard to explain?.

But sleeping too much is not good for the health. Sleeping can also make you thin: women who only sleep for five hours a night are more likely to end up obese than who sleep for seven hours.

except that six to eight hours is the recommended amount of sleep for adults ... it's a simple enough concept, the more you are stagnant, the less calories you're burning, but by being awake, you're going to be moving about and doing tasks and chores, which would burn more calories than simply sitting or sleeping ...

however, it is often said through OTHER research that one should not to go bed angry or perplexed, as thinking about it prior to sleep could cause them to lose sleep ...

for a good study habit, however, researchers do suggest studying or reviewing notes right before you fall asleep, as it is often shifted into long-term memory during sleep ...

ha ha funny. DO you think that if i have an exam an i am not able to solve a question, and take a quick nap of 15 minutes , afterwards i have greater chances of solving it?
No, really i know about the first part of the scientific research but the fact that sleeping is related to obesity is a novelty for me , Thanks for sharing,

A lot of body builder suffer from sleep apnea because they are too big. Lack of sleep can affect your performance in gym. If you often feel tried and irritable through out the day, better go check with a doctor

Yeah i also think that if you sleep then your brain will get used to hibernate so to speak and then you will reduce your neuronal activity. A lot of sleep is not good.
