As i was working out at my old highschool, the basktball team had a personal trainer come in and give them some pointers on squatting and some other exercises. As i have grown to know that wearing a belt is one of the safest methods of squatting, or anyother exercise. But he mentioned that wearing a belt was not neccessary because it strengthens your core, or abs. I thought it was dangerous. Tell me what you think!!

With my experience, I do not regularly train with a belt...I do believe training without one does strengthen your core and also promotes more lower back development....I usually wear one when I'm maxing out on either squats, deadlifts, or power cleans. The only times I think wearing a belt is necessary is when you're doing a heavy set with less than 5 reps, or just maxing out. Although, everybody is different...So there are going to be different opinions on this topic.

i personally do not like wearing belts on squats unless im going very heavy. but i do ALWAYS wear one when i do deadlifts. but i feel more in control and more powerful when i dont wear a belt on squats. and i do feel my core tighten as im doing them..well, theres me feedback.

Your gym instructor has always told you to use a belt? Not to bust your bubble or anything but thats quite ignorant of your instructor. Belts are best used during max lifts, or in moderation. Not 100% of the time.
