There are so many aspects of baseball, that I am not sure where to begin. There is a weighlifting group for my team that lifts weights, and we have regular practices, but what can I do when I don't have access to weights or a practice session on the field?

Surely there is something that doesn't cost too much?

with all of the organized sports i've been involved with, the one thing i've noticed that is not done enough is stretching ... on the days where you don't have workouts scheduled, i would definitely spend some time just stretching ... as sissie as it is, yoga is a great form of exercise while helping you to limber up ... i'm guessing you're in highschool/college ... depending on the school, there very likely is a weight room that is open for kids to just come and use ... i know at my high school it's open at 6 every morning until about 5 or so ... which is way nice ...

Ours is only open during season, and only after school for about an hour. It isn't the best hours, especially since I have a job I go to after school. I do take a weight training class, and that is the only time I ever get to see the weight room.

Lately I have been slacking though. It's hard to lift weights while everyone else is playing contact sports(which are much more fun)

hmm, what about BEFORE school? if it's open, it'd be an opportunity for you to get in ...

Though training through weight-lifting for baseball is definitely necessary, the primary amount of time should be spent practicing in my opinion. Baseball is just not a very strength-intensive sport in general, although strength does play a factor as we've seen with the steroid problems. Practice throwing a ball at cans that you set-up on a picnic table. Batting cages are often cheap too.

Yeah usually school gyms are open before school and for a while after school, at least that is the case with mine.

Baseball is quite good training, if done right. I agree with the rest of the posters, that one important thing for baseball, is you must stretch out well. There are always nagging injuries with baseball!
