 Post subject: Eating before and after training

Training for a specific sport is not easy. Self discipline has a lot to do with it. Part of the discipline is on eating. There are certain foods you are not allowed to eat. But I want to know if it is really true that you should not eat anything before and after sports training. Does it depends on what sport you are into?

i have rarely, if never heard that ... i've always been encouraged to eat before, if not after training ... i have a very sensitive blood sugar, and always eat some sort of food before i run, with little fluids, because the sloshing of fluids causes me to feel sick ... afterwards, i grab a box of juice to stabilize my blood sugars ... i'm not diabetic, just have very sensitive blood sugars ...

everyone has to keep their own blood sugar and metabolism regulated, and the best way to do so is by eating ... exercise lowers a person's blood sugar, but eating before and after will help minimalize the effects, which, in some people, can be very drastic ...

I know that before I ever went to any swim-meets my parents used to make me eat a dinner with a lot of Carbohydrates for energy (often spaghetti). I would assume the same could be true for while you're training.

and in cross country we always had pasta parties the night before our races ... just make sure you eat plenty of carbs to have plenty of energy ...

but i think the original question was eating immediately before or immediately after ...

I was always told not to eat before i went swimming - not sure why but I was very young when I was told that - maybe it was don't any sweeties ;)

I use to eat before and this helps me; the problem is what kind of food are you planning to eat, if you know what is good for your organisms then you will not have any problems. Also the type of food that is allowed and which is not allowed depends highly on the specific training that you are doing.

I eat something that gives energy to me before i go to run or lift weights.It keeps me up and running boost my performance at the same time if i eat so much gives me some fat which i dont want.

I have never heard that you shouldn't eat anything before/after, and I do not think it is true. During basketball season we would always have meals before the home games. Just make sure it isn't something that is sure to give you a stomach ache.
