Here are a couple exercises that may help you increase your vertical jump:

The 1st exercise that is used help increase your vertical leap is called the box jump. Basically you build or find a box that will support your weight. You want this box to be big enough to challenge you to have to jump higher than normal to get up on top of it. This exercise challenges you to jump higher and helps build your jumping muscles.

The second exercise that is used to help increase your vertical leap is called the leap and bound. Basically this is like a running skip. You will start on your right foot and push off. You want to try to jump as high as possible and land on your right foot. As you land, without taking any more steps, push off with your left foot and jump as high as you can. Keep doing this over and over for about 50 yards or so.

The third exercise that is used to increase you vertical leap is called the explosive burst. This is just a huge jump. You will bend at the knees and explode off of both legs and jump as high as you possibly can. Do this over and over and you will increase your leaping capability.

I hope this helps!

If you want to get a higher vertical jump, then just practice jumping! Sounds pretty simple to me.

The old practice was to put weights around your ankle, and job for an hour. This is what the basketball players were doing in our area in my younger days.

Heres another excercise.

Get a high box. Jump off it as high as you can and land on your heels. Then as soon as you land, EXPLODE off and jump as high and as far as you can.

Also, do straight leg calf-raises.

i would advise against jumping off of high objects and trying to explode up ... the impact will wreak more havoc on your knees and ankles and joints than you need ... as a basketball player, those are trouble areas already ... there's no need to make them any worse ...

one thing i know that helped me when i was doing basketball was using medicine balls ... standing with a partner, you jump up with the medicine ball and toss it to your partner ... it was pretty low impact but also worked your shoulders and helped on stronger arms for passing, too ...

i never said it didn't work, don't get so hyped up ... all i'm saying is there are a lot of other moves and exercises that will produce the same higher jump, just without the impact slamming joints together ... you bruise two bones and it hurts like hell, sitting, walking, running, not to mention jumping ... i can't think of any fun injuries ... why take the risks when there's other exercises and moves you can do???

Anything you do can cause and injury. Jumping in football pads to block a pass can hurt your knees...Squatting can be bad for the knees...theres alot fo stuff that CAN cause injury but most dont. All plyometrics moves are jumping so cant they all cause injury??

yes, with anything there's a risk of injury ... but with some things there's more of a risk than others ... some things are easier to do wrong than others which can lead to even more/worse injuries ...

thanks for the tips, they are really useful; even i am a big fan of sports in general, this kind if activity involves a lot of risk , and i think this is quite a straight way to an injury that can cut off your sportive activity.
