Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid. Being a amino acid, it is known as a building block for protein. Arginine is known to be the precursor for the gas Nitric Oxide (NO2).

The human body cannot produce arginine on it's own, so it is important to eat foods that are rich in arginine. Arginine is usually found in high concentrations in nuts, seeds, chocolate, and raisins. Or another alternative is to consume Arginine in capsule form.

There are several physical processes the body uses arginine for; And
these processes include hormone secretion, growth hormone release, the
removal of toxic waste products from the body, and supports immune
system defenses.

Arginine has the ability to signal muscle
cells, support healthy cholesterol, enhance fat metabolism, lower blood
pressure, and decrease arterial plaque. Arginine also helps regulate
salt levels within the body. And because arginine is a precursor for
nitric oxide, arginine is often supplemented to support healthy sexual
function.

Since arginine has the ability to improve an immune
system of one, an athlete for example would be able to train harder and
be able to avoid minor health problems associated with overtraining.

Because of it's vasodilating properties, Arginine is well recognized within the
bodybuilding community. Also with any amino acid, overdose is a
possibility. Overdose symptoms may include diarrhea, weakness and
nausea. It is advised for individuals who have existing heart or psychiatric
conditions, to contact their physician prior to using arginine.
