Vitamin D?s best ? known role is to keep bones healthy by increasing the intestinal absorption of calcium. Vitamin D also plays an important role in vascular health.

Osteoporosis is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease and low blood levels of vitamin D have been linked to increased coronary artery calcification. Foods that are rich in vitamin D include. The body obtains vitamin D from sunlight as well as dietary sources like cod liver oil. Though you can also get your source from a supplement pill.

Did you mean that Vitamin D helps in preventing osteoporosis? I never knew that Vitamin D play an important role in preventing osteoporosis. I thought osteoporosis is a result of lack in Calcium only.

Five to ten minutes of sun exposure just on face, will help you to make a whole month's supply of vitamin D. The same UV rays that create vitamin D in your skin can destroy it with too much sun exposure.

And the same Uv can make you skin cancer if you lay down on beach all day.I`ve read that deficiency of vitamin D also contributes to osteoporosis by reducing calcium absorption but when you take normal levels of vitamin D help keep bones strong and may help prevent osteoporosis.

definitely true, that's why milk (a huge source of calcium in most people's diet) is enriched and fortified with vitamin D, so the body will absorb the calcium ...
