My cousin is quite overweight. Her fats on stomach area are her big problem. A new dance studio was put up near our house. They offer belly dancing. My cousin is really eager to try it since the instructor there said that it is a good way to lose the fats especially on waist area. Is this really true?

yes, it is true that belly dancing does highly involve the stomach and abdominal muscles ...

the one untrue notion is that just by dancing the weight on any certain part of the body will disappear ... in order to lose weight, it takes losing more calories than your body needs in a day ... if she can acquire that through belly dancing, then yes ...

yes, it IS a good exercise, but just because it works the area where fat is generally deposited in females does not mean that's where the fat leaves from ... im getting the feeling that you're one of the ones that buy into the slogan that you can "melt away the fat" of "certain areas" by doing "certain exercises" ... it's not true at all ...

as i said before, you MUST CONSUME FEWER CALORIES THAN YOU BURN IN A DAY ... eating, walking, sleeping, sitting at a desk, etc., they all count for calorie consumptions ...

there have been times when i was legitimately toned, but NOT trimmed ... i could feel sixpack abs, but it was underneath a hefty layer of flub ...

toning the muscles might take away an inch or two, maybe a few more, but by just working ONE CERTAIN MUSCLE GROUP, it will not guarantee that all the fat will automatically leave, too ...

Yes, I certainly agree with Montana. Just like they say, prevention is better than cure. It is hard to burn calories in our body. It takes a lot of patience and exercise to achieve the figure we want. So if our metabolism is not that good, it is best to control eating and follow a good diet.

I heard it is a great way to tone up but no where around here does it - only up in town - and I can't get up there in the time I have :(

But it is a great way :)
